Who is Anam Cara Canine?

The Art of Canine Communication and Functional Behavioral Analysis
I’ve spent years working with both horses and dogs, beginning as an equestrian and Equine Behaviorist. Over time, I gained hands-on experience with hundreds of horses and dedicated thousands of hours to their care and training. In 2015, I began blending positive reinforcement techniques with Classical Dressage, which led me to study behavioral learning theory and operant conditioning—the same foundation used in modern dog training since the 1980s.
I’ve worked with companion dogs of all sizes and temperaments, from minor quirks to more complex behavioral challenges, and I truly enjoy teaching both people and their dogs. My approach is straightforward, compassionate, and holistic—focused on the unique needs of both dog and human. I prioritize enrichment, habituation, and skill-building through positive methods, while remaining open to additional strategies when thoughtfully and collaboratively deemed necessary.
I also consider the individual physical or psychological challenges that each dog and owner may face, and I work to find a sustainable middle ground that supports long-term success. By staying flexible, I hope to reach and support as many lives as possible—helping dogs and humans build better relationships and reducing the risk of animals being surrendered or abandoned.
If you're looking for someone to help you and your dog better understand one another, I’d be honored to be part of that journey.

Omg can't say enough positive things about this trainer! We have a Staffy terrier mix who is rambunctious to say the least! She was so patient, helpful and knowledgeable! Always offering tips and explaining the logic behind it. We had the whole family at every training session (2 boys and my husband) and she was so patient and good with the kids! My dog absolutely loves her and he picked up all the things we worked on so quickly! We saw significant improvement in my dogs behavior after every session! We are so pleased with her work and calming presence! Highly highly recommend her for all pups!

"Elise is an excellent trainer. She is kind, reliable, intelligent, intuitive--in particular, she deeply understands and loves dogs (and humans), and is uniquely attuned to their/our inner lives. Elise has studied a number of training techniques and is quite skilled in tailoring this know-how according to the individual needs and goals of her clients, both human and canine. Those who want to transform a maladaptive behavior and/or deepen their connection with their dogs will find no better resource in the Roanoke area than Elise Weber and Anam Cara Canine."
